Spook Central Halloween Treat - The Real Ghostbusters Call Sheets & Notable Guest Stars

Finally, we have several groups of main cast members from other '80s animated series amongst the ranks of The Real Ghostbusters elite.



A staple of the Disney Afternoon programming block, this series transplants several characters from Disney's The Jungle Book into the golden age of the 1930s. Baloo the bear is a seaplane cargo-for-hire operator from the port city of Cape Suzette. His twin-engine seaplane, the Sea Duck, is his most prized possession, and he favors his freedom over all else, including paying his bills. When the bank forecloses on his debts, a young entrepreneur/single mother named Rebecca Cunningham snaps up his business, his plane, and his home, and opens the "Higher-For-Hire" air cargo service. Rather than abandon his "baby" to her and whatever low-rent pilot she may hire, he stays on, working for the day when he can buy back the Sea Duck and be rid of her. Early on, he picks up a young stowaway, Kit Cloudkicker, who eventually earns the post of Baloo's navigator and sidekick. A daring barnstormer and aspiring pilot, Kit uses a collapsible airfoil to glide behind the Sea Duck on a line, and is responsible for much of the derring-do of the series in contrast to his overweight chum. The major antagonists, the Air Pirates, are led by Don Karnage, who operates from a giant flying aircraft carrier called the Iron Vulture. (The show is available on DVD, either as a complete series collection, or as Vol. 1, Vol. 2, and Vol. 3.)

Airing Saturday mornings on CBS, this series featured the animated adventures of popular WWF stars of the time. Hulk Hogan was the leader of the faces, or good guys; consisting of Junkyard Dog, Captain Lou Albano, Andre the Giant, Wendi Richter, Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, Hillbilly Jim, and Tito Santana. Rowdy Roddy Piper was the leader of the heels, or bad guys; consisting of The Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volkoff, The Fabulous Moolah, Big John Studd, and Mr. Fuji. Manager Bobby "The Brain" Heenan and interviewer "Mean" Gene Okerlund also appeared in animated form in a few episodes as well. A few episodes referenced Ghostbusters, including the use of the Ray Parker Jr. theme song. The real-life wrestlers appeared in the live-action segments of the show, though these are only included in the VHS home video releases produced by WWF/WWE and the original set of tapes released by Kideo Video/Lorimar in the 1980s. Any VHS tapes released by DIC do not contain the live-action segments. Sadly, this series is not available on DVD.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are four teenaged anthropomorphic turtles named after Italian artists of the Renaissance: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael. They were trained by their anthropomorphic rat sensei, Splinter, in the art of ninjutsu. From their home in the sewers of New York City, they battle their archnemises Shredder and Krang, along with an assortment of petty criminals, mutated creatures, and alien invaders while attempting to remain hidden from society. They were created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird and first appeared in comic books released in 1984. A few episodes of this classic 1987 series referenced Ghostbusters, and there were several Ghostbusters/Turtles cross-over comic books published by IDW in the mid-2010s. (The complete series is available on DVD, either in a Turtles van case or in a normal case.)

The new animated adventures of Jake Kong Jr. and Eddie Spencer Jr., sons of the original Ghost Busters from the 1975 live action series The Ghost Busters. Joined by their father's sidekick, Tracy the Gorilla, Jake and Eddie work out of their Ghost Command headquarters, where they are supported by Ansa-Bone, a talking skull phone; Skelevision, a talking skeleton television; Belfrey, a pink talking bat; and Ghost Buggy, their talking ghost car. They occasionally enlist the aid of Futura, a time travelling Ghostbuster from the future, and Jessica Wray, a local TV news reporter. Together, they have dedicated themselves to ridding the world of the evil ghost wizard Prime Evil and his rogues gallery.
