Title Reference: A reference to a plot point of opening a door to the other side on Halloween.
The voice actors were recorded on June 14, July 5, and September 19, 1989. Michael Rye recorded on July 5, 1989. Frank Welker recorded on September 19, 1989.
Originally broadcast on ABC on Sunday October 29, 1989 at 7:30 PM Eastern/Pacific, in between an episode of Free Spirit (the Corine Bohrer series about a witch serving as the housekeeper to a single man and his kids - with a pre-famous Alyson Hannigan) and the television movie The Final Days (about the end of Richard Nixon's presidency). This is the only episode of The Real Ghostbusters to air in primetime.
This episode has a special opening sequence in which footage from the regular opening is edited with footage from the episode, with footage from the original promo pilot, and with a few shots from "Something's Going Around". The end credits are special as well: they run over footage from the episode.
When this episode originally aired as a primetime special, the title was shown on a special screen while an announcer's voice told that "we will return" or "we now return". A title was added over the episode itself when it was reshown Saturday morning on ABC. In some later repeat syndication airings, no episode title is shown because they use the primetime version, but omit the special title screen.
It should be noted that the different beginning & end title sequences and the different or no episode title screens were done by the stations that aired the episode over the years, not by DIC & Columbia Pictures Television -- so I don't consider them as different versions. The only TRUE version of this episode is the one ABC originally broadcast in primetime.
The bad guy's name is Crowley, which is a reference to Aleister Crowley - a demonologist/occultist in the early part of this century. A rather scummy guy, in fact.
The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man can be seen during the "Bugaloo's Back In Town" sequence.
Brian O'Neal, the voice of Boogaloo, was one of the members of the music group The Bus Boys -- the group who sang the song "Cleanin' Up The Town" from the movie "Ghostbusters" (the song is on the soundtrack album).
