Mill Creek recently released The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: The Complete Series (2015-2019) in a budget-priced Blu-ray box set. Read on to find out more...

Rescued after 15 years in an underground doomsday cult, Kimmy Schmidt (Ellie Kemper) decides to rebuild her life in New York City armed with only a 5th grade education and a firm belief that truly anything is possible. On a whim, she rents a room from Lillian Kaushtupper (Carol Kane), which she shares with existing tenant Titus Andromedon (Tituss Burgess), a gay wannabe Broadway actor, who makes ends meet as a street performer in Times Square. She also gets a job working for pampered Manhattan socialite Jacqueline White (Jane Krakowski), who with Kimmy's help, learns to be a better person. As she finds her way in the 21st Century, Kimmy plans to find the good in everything.

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is a very quirky series, created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, that will not be for everyone. I can easily see why some people will find the characters to be utterly stupid. I'm not one of those people. I was enthralled in the show from start to finish thanks to the wackiness of the characters and how well the actors played them, especially Ellie and Tituss, never going so far as to make them completely goofy. The show features a level of meta humor not seen since the failed six-episode Police Squad series back in 1982. That show was the inspiration for the theatrical The Naked Gun film series, where that type of humor worked better. Had there being streaming services like Netflix back in 1982, I have no doubt that Police Squad would have been successful. Ghostheads will find a ton of Ghostbusters references all throughout the series, and let's not forget about the "robot uprising" undercurrent that plays out in the background while you're paying attention to other things.

This box set contains all 4 seasons of the Netflix series, consisting of a total of 51 episodes, on eight discs. Each season is on two discs, with each disc containing 6 or 7 episodes. Episode lengths vary from around 23 minutes in the first season, to an average of 30 minutes throughout, and with a final episode that runs 38:11.

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is presented in its original 1.78:1 aspect ratio. There is only an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 audio track for all episodes, as well as English subtitles. As is the case with most Mill Creek Entertainment releases, there are no bonus features.

The 8 discs are stored in a thick blue plastic case, with each disc on it's own "page" with no overlap. That case is stored in a paperboard outer side-loading slipbox. This is a VAST improvement over the cheap paperboard sleeves Mill Creek uses for their DVD box sets.

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: The Complete Series is available on Blu-ray and DVD. Either set is recommended, but Blu-ray is preferred since the show was shot on digital in HD.
