If there's an invisible man sleeping in your bed, who are you going to call? Not the Ghostbusters, this time.
The Invisible Man (2020) is a re-imagining of the 1933 Universal classic monster movie, based on the 1897 novel by H.G. Wells (read online), though no mention is ever made of Wells in the film's credits or bonus features. Does it fare better than most remakes and re-imaginings? Read on to find out...

The Invisible Man (2020) tells the tale of Cecilia Kass (Elisabeth Moss), a woman trapped in a violent, controlling relationship with wealthy scientist Adrian Griffin (Oliver Jackson-Cohen). She escapes in the dead of night and disappears into hiding, but when her abusive ex-boyfriend suddenly dies, Cecilia suspects that his death was a hoax. As a series of eerie coincidences turns lethal, threatening the lives of those she loves, Cecilia's sanity begins to unravel while she desperately tries to prove she is being hunted by someone nobody can see.

I can easily sum up The Invisible Man as a Lifetime movie on steroids! The story is like those you would see on Lifetime, only it's not as cliched and trope-filled. Former child actor Elisabeth Moss, whom you may know for The Handmaid's Tale and Mad Men, but I best remember as the little girl with the cat in Suburban Commando, effortlessly carries the film on her shoulders with her performance as Cecilia. Most of the time she's reacting to nothing, so if she wasn't on the top of her game, the movie wouldn't work. I am also pleased to report that this is one of the current slate of "female empowerment" movies that DOES have a positive male character in a prominent role.

Director/writer Leigh Whannell, whom I'll always remember as Adam, one of the guys chained up in the decrepit bathroom in SAW (which he referenced in this film), keeps the movie moving along at a brisk pace, with lots of phenomenal action scenes and fantastic special effects that are super realistic. That's not to say that his story is perfect. Plot holes abound. No care is given to the personal needs (breathing, eating, bathing, bathroom usage) of the invisible man. If cops would have watched the security cameras in the restaurant and mental hospital, the story would have played out quite differently.

The Invisible Man (2020) is presented in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with a runtime of 2:04:23. Audio languages include English, Spanish, and French. The film includes English SDH, Spanish, and French subtitles. The first print run includes a beautiful embossed slipsleeve.

Here's a list of all of the bonus features that can be found on the UHD disc. Surprisingly, the UHD includes ALL of the same bonus content as on the Blu-ray disc, and it's all in 4K, too! Bonus features play automatically after the film, preceded by a screen with the Universal logo atop a message stating, "Thank you for watching the feature presentation. Stay tuned for bonus features."
