Neca $9.99 Pop Culture Blind Bag Unboxing Review #2 (Duplicate Bags)
By Paul Rudoff on Nov. 6, 2020 at 5:30 PM in Mystery/Blind Bags

No, this is not a repeat review. Yes, I've already reviewed several of Neca's themed blind bags, including the Pop Culture Blind Bag. I bought two more of the Pop Culture Blind Bags from my local Target, and what I found inside them made me simultaneously happy and FURIOUS...
If you haven't read any of my previous reviews of Neca's themed blind bags, here's the down and dirty lowdown on them: For $10, you get four leftovers from Loot Crate mystery boxes from years past, usually without the original packaging. Based on all of my past Neca blind bag purchases, the items seem to be randomly placed in the bags. My purchase of the two latest Pop Culture bags questions that theory.
As you can see in the photo above, BOTH BAGS CONTAINED THE SAME FOUR ITEMS!!!
• Alita Battle Angel: Alita Berserker Mini Figurine
• Alita Battle Angel Motorball Collectible Pin
• LootAnime Yume Bookmark
• RWBY Crescent Rose Prop Replica Scythe Statue
Sure, I expect to get a duplicate item here and there if I buy enough of these bags, but to get 100% duplicates in two bags bought at the same time really ticks me off.
Alita Battle Angel: Alita Berserker Mini Figurine - This little lady, from the 2019 film starring ravishing Rosa Salazar, is 5" tall on a 4.25"x3.25" base. I like that film, and not just because Rosa is the lead, though she's the only reason I have that crappy C.H.I.P.S film (with Dax Shepard and Michael Pena) in my Blu-ray collection. So, I absolutely LOVE this little statue showing Alita with her two robotic arms getting ready for battle.
Alita Battle Angel Motorball Collectible Pin - Also from the 2019 film is this 1.5"x1.5" collectible pin depicting the Motorball from the event within the film. It's nice, but I would have liked this better if it depicted the battle angel herself.
LootAnime Yume Bookmark - This is a thin metal bookmark slightly bigger than 2"x3" inside a 4"x4" "jewelry" box with a 2019 copyright date. I have no idea who "Yume" is. A few minutes on Google didn't help, though I did learn that this came from the July 2019 Loot Crate offering. It's a nice bookmark if you're into anime and reading, but it's a pass for me.
Measuring 7.5" tall from the bottom of the 3"-diameter base to the top-most point, when I first took this out of the bag(s), I had zero clue what the Hell it was! This is a prime example of why it HURTS the customer that Neca isn't including the original outer packaging/box for each of these items because that would have told me what this is and what it's from. The only clue is a 2019 copyright to "Rooster Teeth Productions" on the bottom of the base. Thankfully, putting "Loot Crate" and "Rooster Teeth" into the eBay search box bought up one matching result...and it was the first result, no less. This is a "RWBY Crescent Rose Prop Replica", which the box clearly states. (Box images below come from eBay seller coolbuy310.) RWBY is an anime show produced by Rooster Teeth. I thought that it looked like some sort of video game weapon. I got the "weapon" part right.
Sadly, there were no Ghostbusters items in these bags. The last three bags all had a Ghostbusters item in each of them, so I was hoping that would be the norm. Also, despite the 1980s-style packaging, all of the items are from properties made within the past few years. No "vintage" brands are represented here.
Honestly, although I liked the Pop Culture bags from the batch of three I bought a few months ago, these two duplicate bags soured me on them. I'm really not sure if I will buy any more.
