Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard (2021) was recently released on 4K UHD/Blu-ray Combo Pack by Lionsgate. Read on to find out more about it...
[ SYNOPSIS ]
The world's most lethal odd couple - bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) and hit man Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson) - are back. Still unlicensed, Bryce is forced into action by Darius's wife, the infamous international con artist Sonia Kincaid (Salma Hayek). As Bryce is driven over the edge by the volatile spouses, the trio get in over their heads in a global plot and soon find that they are all that stand between Europe and vengeful and powerful madman Aristotle Papdopolous (Antonio Banderas).
[ QUICK THOUGHTS ]
Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard is a sequel to The Hitman's Bodyguard, which loses "The" from the original's title. I have no idea why, unless the filmmakers felt that The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard would be too long of a title. It's a comedy with action and romance. The comedy part is important to note, as it is over-the-top and absurdist with a plot that, in all honesty, is complete nonsense. You just have to shut your brain off and enjoy the ride... and what a ride it is, with Salma Hayek being a fucking delight as foul-mouthed Sonia. The R-rating is earned for dialog, and most of it is due to her. Antonio Banderas plays Greek madman Aristotle Papdopolous - but with his usual Spanish accent. This is not a film to be taken seriously. This marks the sixth film collaboration of Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek after Desperado (1995), Frida (2002), Spy Kids 3: Game Over (2003), Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003), and Puss in Boots (2011). (While both also appeared in Four Rooms (1995), they were in different segments.)
