[ NOTES ]
Going into this movie, I knew that it would be a beautiful and lavish period piece, though I had no idea that it was a musical, too. It's actually based on a stage musical by Erica Schmidt, which in turn was based on the age-old stageplay by Edmond Rostand. Musicals are a hit-or-miss thing for me. In this case, it was a miss. I didn't care one bit for the songs and would have enjoyed the film a lot more without them. All of the leads give great performances, with Peter Dinklage, a favorite of mine, a standout as the titular character; here depicted as a dwarf instead of as person "deformed" by a large nose - as was the case in the other film adaptation of the source material I previously reviewed, Roxanne (1987).
Cyrano (2021) is available on Blu-ray/DVD, and DVD.
