Film Masters recently released the Ginger in the Morning (1974) Blu-ray. Read on to find out more about it...
[ SYNOPSIS ]
Attractive hitchhiker Ginger (Sissy Spacek) meets divorced ad executive Joe (Monte Markham). Their contrasting personalities - her free spirit, his romanticism - draw them together despite the age gap. An unlikely relationship blossoms between the two.
[ SPECIFICATIONS ]
The movie is presented in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with a runtime of 1:35:00. The film is preceded by a 25-second note informing viewers that "the following feature film was sourced from the original 35mm camera negative that was made before the film's theatrical release in 1974. This print retains the preliminary title of Pick Up the Pieces, which was ultimately changed to Ginger in the Morning when the film premiered. We have decided to leave this preliminary title intact to reserve the integrity of this new 4K scan." The movie has been rated PG. Audio languages include English. Subtitle languages English SDH.
[ SPECIAL FEATURES ]
All of the content listed below can be found the Blu-ray disc. All three trailers seem to be identical, with the 2024 trailer using clips from the new film transfer over the original trailer's audio.
- Audio Commentary - with C. Courtney Joyner and Amanda Reyes (includes subtitles).
- Monte Markham Remembers Ginger in the Morning (18:25) - A 2024 interview with the lead actor that, surprisingly, uses 1.33:1 open matte film clips.
- Original 35mm Trailer A (1:19)
- Original 35mm Trailer B (1:16)
- 2024 Re-cut Trailer (1:19)
No digital copy code voucher is included inside the standard one-disc blue Blu-ray case. However, not only is a slipcover included, but there is also a liner booklet with photos and the essay "Sissy Spacek" by Susan King.
[ NOTES ]
Ginger in the Morning (1984) is available on Blu-ray and DVD. Do note that the DVD is NOT from Film Masters and is said to be of exceptionally poor quality. The movie on the new Film Masters Blu-ray is of fantastic quality, and the movie itself is a delight with Sissy Spacek at her most adorable. I do wonder why the drawing of Ginger on the cover, likely pulled from the original theatrical poster, looks nothing like Sissy.
